From Frank Rich at the New York Times:
The Republicans haven’t had a single African-American in the Senate or the House since 2003 and have had only three in total since 1935.
And:
The Tea Party movement is virtually all white.
Can you put 2 + 2 together?

Does that wild pig have lipstick on?  It looks familiar.  From Pat Oliphant at the Washington Post:

In a demonstration of the GOP’s continuing pigginess, the Republican National Convention shows they are the party of “white meat.” According to the Washington Post, only 1.5% of the delegates to the Republican National Convention were black:
ST. PAUL, Minn., Sept. 3 — Organizers conceived of this convention as a means to inspire, but some African American Republicans have found the Xcel Energy Center depressing this week. Everywhere they look, they see evidence of what they consider one of their party’s biggest shortcomings. Â As the country rapidly diversifies, Republicans are presenting a convention that is almost entirely white. Â Only 36 of the 2,380 delegates seated on the convention floor are black, the lowest number since the
Joint Center for Political and Economic Studies began tracking diversity at political conventions 40 years ago
While the GOP is at an all-time low, just the opposite is true among the Democrats… perhaps not surprising as Obama is the first black person to win the nomination of a major party. Quote the Joint Center:
African American participation at this year’s Democratic National Convention will be at an all-time high, with 1,079 African American delegates representing 24.3 percent of the total.
